Perry Saidman, Esq., of the Design Law Group will present a seminar on design patents at the next meeting of the IP Committee to be held Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Hyatt Hotel and Conference Center in conjunction with the mid-year meeting of the Florida Bar.  The meeting begins at 9:00 am and the seminar will be held after regular committee business is completed.

Perry will discuss design patent prosecution and infringement litigation in light of the recent decision in Egyptian Goddess v. SwisaEgyptian Goddess, a 2008 en banc decision from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, is the most significant design patent case in the past 135 years.

Perry Saidman, an expert in design patent law who wrote the amicus brief on behalf of Apple in the case, will explain the pre-Egyptian and post-Egyptian law as respects the two big issues in the case: design patent Markman claim construction, and the point of novelty design patent infringement test. His informative and enjoyable presentation will be supported by numerous slides of litigated designs.
